Being able to identify and verbalize your skills is needed when, for example
- Deciding which jobs and tasks might be most suitable for you
- Writing your CV/resume and cover letter
- Preparing for a job interview
- Preparing for a salary discussion (e.g. asking for a raise)
- Preparing for a development discussion at work
- Discussing opportunities for new responsibilities / promotion at work
The better you know and can communicate your competencies and skills, the better you will be able to connect to exactly those career opportunities that inspire you.
The material consists of the following contents:
- What are skills and competencies: This section will give you a better understanding of what competencies consist of and what it actually is. This section also contains two exercises that allow you to work on identifying your competencies.
- Competencies identified by others: Often individuals have a different perception of themselves than others do. Every person has sides to them that others do not know about, and also sides that they themselves are not consciously aware of. This section uses various exercises to steer you to observe your competencies from the perspective of others. When your competencies are identified by others, it offers you a mirror for you to view your own skills in a new light. This allows you to reinforce what you already know about your competencies and potentially see sides of it that are completely new to you.
- Verbalize your skills and competenices: This section contains various tips to support you in how to communicate your competencies to others. You will also get to practice verbalising your competencies with the help of two exercises.
- Looking to the future: When trying to identify your competencies, it is also crucial that you look forward and look into the future. How could you develop your competencies? What is the direction you could take? What kind of competencies do you want to use in the future? Working life is going through a transformation that is also changing the requirements set for skills and competencies. This section will give you a better understanding of how your competencies relates to the future needs of working life.
The course is available for both student and full members of TEK and its content is in English. To participate, you only need a computer device that is connected to the Internet. The training is also accessible on mobile devices. The material contains independent studying and exercises. You may complete the exercises independently and set your own schedule.
