This is a spring of democracy. We have both the parliamentary elections and the TEK General Council elections ahead of us. The role of elections as enablers of democracy is even greater than before. There was a long period of time when the global development of democracy became stronger and stronger. Now, a brutal war of aggression started by Russia is taking place in Europe, in which the people of Ukraine are being annihilated.
Every single candidate in the upcoming elections is a standard-bearer of democracy. We have 406 standard-bearers of democracy in this spring’s TEK elections.
It is important that voters get to examine and compare the different candidates. The TEK elections will select a new General Council for three years. The General Council will appoint a new Board and presiding officers for TEK in the autumn. The Board appoints the committees, and many members of the committees have expressed their interest in TEK’s activities by running as candidates.
200 people deciding on Finland’s matters will be selected in the parliamentary elections. In addition to deciding on the members of parliament, voters will also decide how Finland will be built during the next four years. TEK has published its parliamentary election goals, which are sustainable growth, expertise, and high-quality working life that promotes well-being. Through these themes, we want to make the goals found in our strategy a reality: building a more sustainable world and a better working life. It is important that experts in the field of technology are running as candidates and want to make an impact.
More than 50 TEK members are running as candidates in the parliamentary elections. As democratic acts go, voting is just as important as running as a candidate. Find the candidate most suitable for you and exercise your right to vote. TEK members: let’s come together and show the power of representative democracy!
