Research is important to us. We use the knowledge it provides to advocate for our members’ interests in legislation and to negotiate terms of employment, for example.
The ongoing collective agreement negotiations are based, among other things, on the views expressed in our surveys by TEK members working in the sectors under negotiation.
The results of these surveys help us to raise TEK members’ views, concerns and suggestions for improvement in public in different ways.
Several newspapers and even the main news of Yle have recently reported on age discrimination in technology, the opinions of international experts on Finnish work life and equal pay for men and women.
And of course, the salary statistics of our Labour Market Survey are always a favourite topic.
The information provided by our members also helps us support the development of education.
Talouselämä (45/2024) reported that the representatives of universities praised TEK as an organisation with a wealth of labour market knowledge, a broad understanding of societal needs and an appreciation for the development of the discipline.
We all get asked to complete a lot of surveys. However, I would like to think that answering TEK’s surveys and studies is worth it, even though our Labour Market Survey, for example, is quite detailed and takes a while to complete.
We turn the information provided by our members into advocacy and action for a better (working) life.
The article is the editorial of TEK Magazine 5/2024.
