TEK’s Election Committee confirmed the candidates for the TEK General Council election in their meeting on 27 February. A total of 406 candidates will contest the election.
– It's wonderful to see that so many members want to have a say in TEK's activities. Next, it's the turn of around 50,000 members who are entitled to vote to say who they want involved in deciding TEK matters, says Election Committee secretary Daniel Valtakari.
The candidates are a comprehensive cross-section of the organisation’s diverse membership. Most candidates come from the southern electoral area, where 197 candidates will contest a total of 32 seats on the General Council. A further 21 General Council seats will be available to the 122 candidates standing in the western electoral area. The eastern electoral area will return a total of 6 General Council delegates from 35 candidates seeking election, while a further 44 candidates from the northern electoral area will be seeking one of 7 available General Council seats. In TFiF's electoral district, four out of eight candidates will be elected.
Nine electoral alliances have put forward candidates. Check out the candidates here (download pdf).

The TEK elections also consider the environment. All voters are encouraged to vote electronically.
– The popularity of electronic voting has grown in every election. In 2014, the situation was fairly evenly split between electronic and postal voting, in 2017 there were already about 70% of electronic votes, and in the last election in 2020, more than 80% voted electronically. I hope this trend continues, Valtakari rejoices.
– Electronic voting saves both nature and costs. In these elections, for the first time, we offered the opportunity to choose fully electronic election materials, which was taken up by more than 2,000 members. In the future, we will develop elections in an even more environmentally friendly direction.
TEK donates 3 euros for the environment for every electronic vote. Electronic voters can also choose a cause from a list compiled by TEK.
TEK's General Council is elected every three years by a member vote. Some 50,000 eligible voters will decide between March 20 and April 3, 2023, which candidates will be elected to the council for the term 2023-2026. You can find out more about the candidates in the election engine, which opens on March 13.
